first generation

Elizabeth Ann Lavender...  Born 7 MAY 1808 in Botetourt County, Virginia.  Married William Hines Hicks on 29 MAR 1827 in Livingston, Kentucky.  Second marriage 6 JAN 1872 in Hardin County, Illinois, was to John G. Carlisle (her daughter's widowed father-in-law).  Died 27 DEC 1884 in Hardin County, Illinois.

Elizabeth and William met while in Livingston, KY, and settled there after marrying, to await the birth of their first child.  After the first child, Henry, was born, they continued their travels to Hardin County.

Children:  Henry George Hicks (1828), Anna Hicks (1830), Melinda Hicks (1831), Lewis/Louis Hicks (1832), Joshua Hicks (1836), Hiram Hicks (1838), Miles Hicks (1839), Elizabeth Hicks (1840), George W. Hicks (1845), John Wesley Hicks (1847), Elvira Hicks (1849).

second generation

George Lavender...  Born 1785 in Botetourt County, Virginia, married Elizabeth Shewmaker on 2 MAY 1807 in Virginia, died 1856 in Hardin County, Illinois.

Children:  Dehelia (did not marry), Fannie (married John Holt), Malinda (married Humphrey Moore), Mahalia (married Benjamin Franklin Jackson), Harriet (married John Brinkley), Louis (born 1814, married Indiana Whiteside in 1849, died 1913), Elizabeth Ann (married William Hines Hicks)

The Lavender Cemetery in Hardin County, Illinois, was donated land from the Lavender family.  It is located on a hill behind where the old farm house was built, and overlooked the site of the house, buildings, pasture and farm land.  Louis Lavender inherited the land that once belonged to his father, George, in the 1850's.  The land remained in the family until 1979.
